Daily Fast Status Report

NOTE: Sorry for the delays in updating these items for last several days.

7/19 Thursday -- Day 19  Progress on talks continuing. Basic terms and conditions put on table today.  Bartlett communicates directly with Commissioner Rossotti.  No agreement yet.  Fast Continues.  Bob's spirit is determined but his voice and energy level have dropped perceptively over a number of days.  This office has recommended to Bob to conserve his energy by sitting more, taking cabs and walking only if necessary.  Conversations with the home office early today were described as encouraging, but somewhat strained as the effects of the fast affect Bob more each day.  A independent film crew is due in Washington tomorrow to start work on an interview-style production to be made available very shortly at low cost.

7/18 Wednesday -- Day 18  IRS balks at holding private meetings or having proceedings recorded.  Bob and Roland spend much of today on Capitol hill in Rep. Bartlett's office.

7/17 Tuesday -- Day 17  Press Conference and post press conference meeting with Rep. Bartlett (R-Maryland).  Rep. Bartlett throws the legal support of the U.S. Congress to answer Schulz's formal petition of grievances by issuing a Congressional Inquiry to the IRS through the Congressional Liaison office.  Bartlett gave until noon Thursday for a response.

7/16 Monday -- Day 16 (8pm)  Bob & Roland making preparations for the Press Conference with the Congressmen tomorrow.  Spent much of the day on the Hill rousting support for his 1st Amendment right to petition.  He and Roland spent the latter part of the afternoon back at 14th & Constitution with the trailer & billboards.  At the Washington Monument Bob shared some heartfelt moments with a number of college & high school students doing projects on liberty & the Constitution.  He echoed his prayers of hope that these younger citizens may actually now know and act upon what they are learning about the real sacrifices needed to continually insure our freedoms.

7/15 Sunday -- Day 15  Bob returned from California late Sunday afternoon.  He was tired from the trip and went straight to his daughter's home in Virginia and spent the evening with his wife and local family.  Bob reported an excellent conference and was moved at the response and support given to him.

7/14 Saturday -- Day 14 Bob was to speak at the conference around 4 pm Saturday afternoon.  He lamented laughingly to the home office that he had to sit through "all these people eating breakfast! " and an upcoming lunch session.  His energy and voice levels are down, but he is in good spirits and obviously, still fighting.  He quipped that Tuesday is going to be an interesting day.  Roland started out with the billboards and van and spent the morning at the 14th & Constitution parking site.  He drove a WTP volunteer who had been in D.C. for several days to the airport and picked up the billboards.  Roland reported feeling tired and needed a little mental "time-off".  Around noon Roland retired to his hotel to rest.  Bob flies back to D.C. Sunday afternoon.

7/13 Friday -- Day 13  Bob fielded calls from the White House and meetings in the Capitol buildings.  Bob flew to California for the income tax rally.  Bob reported feeling light-headed for the first time of the fast as he arrived at the airport.  Bob flew all evening to San Francisco (his plane was delayed 2+ hours)  and was met by a volunteer rally supporter at the airport about 1 a.m. (SFO time) who drove him to Sunnyvale, CA late last evening.  Transportation was arranged so Bob would not have to risk driving in a tired state after protesting & traveling west all day Friday.  Long day for Bob.

7/12 Thursday -- Day 12 (10 pm)  Bob succeeded today in convincing House Congressmen that their legal duty as imposed by their oath of office requires them to support his position that the tax petition must be formally answered by the government.  The conference is next Tuesday at the Capitol at 3 p.m. on the House "Triangle".

Bob asks everyone that lives or works within a reasonable distance should "take the afternoon off" and give your country a few hours.  The Foundation's TRT (Tryanny Response Team) windbreakers will be available before the event.

Bob was pleased that both Senators and Representatives were beginning to contact him regarding this issue.  Bob, again, thanks all of you for helping in this cause.  Tomorrow, Bob flies to CA to speak at the 2001 Tax Freedom Conference in Sunnyvale, CA

Roland will continue the hunger fast in D.C. throughout the weekend.  He will be parked with the billboards at 14th & Constitution, across from the Washington Monument.  Please stop by if you are there this weekend.

7/11 Wednesday -- Day 11 (6 pm)  Schulz and Croteau spent much of today arranging a press conference, now scheduled for next Tuesday, July 17th at 3 p.m. in D.C.  The conference will be for House Representatives on the Liberty Committee to demonstrate their public commitment to their oath of office by supporting We The People's demand for a formal government response to the tax Remonstrance.

Bob also conducted a number of radio interviews today.  Roland reports that "both of them are doing pretty well even though we have been running everyday like our hair is on fire".  He also reported they are talking to friends and others about initial concerns over longer term health issues such as liver damage, which reportedly can start sometime after the 12th day of a longer term fast.  Roland asked that if folks have information about long term fasting health issues, they be forwarded (or brought) to him in D.C.  E-mail Roland at Roland Croteau.  Bob reiterated his request that his fellow citizens continue to call and fax the President and Congress.  Around 6 PM Bob's mobile billboard was caught in traffic attempting to find a pay phone to conduct a 2-hr talk show on a major San Antonio radio station heard across most of Texas.

7/10 Tuesday -- Day 10 (9 pm) Much of the day was spent hand delivering copies of the Remonstrance package to members of the Liberty Committee.  The Liberty Committee is a group of 17 House Representatives that have publicly sworn to go well beyond their oath of office to uphold the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic -- but to insure that the basic precepts of the Constitution firmly anchor congressional legislation and daily government operations.  Because of their firm and very public commitment to the cornerstone principles of the Constitution,  Bob expects to obtain significant support from these House members in his demand to have the People's Remonstrance answered.

Bob will be speaking at the "2001 Tax Freedom Rally" in Sunnyvale, California this Saturday, 7/14.  It is being hosted by the FreeEnterpriseSociety.com.  Joe Bannister (former IRS agent) and Bill Benson (16th Amendment researcher) are also among the speakers at the conference.  All are invited.  The FES has been a leader in securing the rights of Californians against the legal abuses of California's FTB (Franchise Tax Board) as well as the IRS.

Bob reports his energy is lower than he'd like but at least "he's not hungry anymore".

7/9 Monday -- Day 9. (8 pm) Schulz and Croteau had a busy day delivering new copies of the We The People Remonstrance to the White House and Capitol Hill.  A cover letter, signatures and copies of the USA Today ads accompanied each copy of the petition.  After delivering the Remonstrance to Bush staff members, the group headed to the Hill where they delivered copies to the offices of Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.  Visits to Schulz's and Croteau's respective senators' offices followed.  Petition packages were left with Dan Barron, an aide to Senator James Inhofe (OK), and the offices of Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton (NY) and Chuck Schumer (NY).

Tomorrow, Bob and Roland concentrate on delivering Remonstrance packages to the "Liberty Committee" members (which include Rep. Ron Paul) and other representatives at the Capitol.

Be sure to watch Schulz on Fox News' Hannity & Colms -- this Thursday evening -- 9pm.

7/8 Sunday -- Day 8. (8 pm) Sunday was raining in D.C.  Due to restrictions on parking on the mall area in rainy weather, Bob & Roland opted to work some planning and communications tasks.  Bob's WTP staff has been helping Bob prepare to re-deliver the formal Remonstrance (grievance) to the government this week.  This gives the Bush administration a clear opportunity to respond to the petition where the Clinton government failed to.  Bob and Roland plan to arrange meetings with the offices of the President Bush, the House and the Senate.  Roland wished to convey a few thoughts to followers of the fast, "Our founding fathers knew the meaning of true liberty.  They knew the ONLY way to achieve and maintain that liberty was to be truly willing to sacrifice their lives, fortunes and sacred honors ---  Get off your ____ and do something !" Bob said the billboards & van may be parked closer to the White House starting Monday.  Details as available.  C-SPAN played a segment Sunday afternoon on "Tax Freedom" day that had apparently been filmed at the Capitol steps on Friday 7/6.  The segment featured several organizations offering alternatives/modifications to the income tax.  Although only several blocks away, C-SPAN did not cover, nor interview Bob Schulz.

7/7 Saturday -- Day 7. (12 noon) As reported in the news Bob is experiencing the first stages of food withdrawal.  He reported experiencing a "rare" headache and losing some of his usually high energy stamina. During the day, Bob was elated that a major veterans organization is mobilizing support for Bob (details as available). He completed last night with a 2-hr network radio/web broadcast (see the media coverage section).  This morning Bob contacted the WTP office with initiatives for ongoing media and protest related activities.  He wanted to express his extreme gratitude for all those assisting in this effort.

7/6 Friday.  (as of Friday a.m.)  Bob had a good number of media contacts from across the country yesterday and this morning.  He is doing several regional and national/web broadcast radio shows today.  He reported to the WTP office that the fast is "starting to kick in".  His energy level is starting to subside as his body adjusts to the lack of  food.  Bob & Roland continue to engage and inform tourists, locals and the media from their fast location.

7/5 Thursday.  Bob is doing well - but starting to feel the effects of the fast.  He is now in D.C. and has set up his van & trailer just off the Washington Monument.  His approximate location is at 14th & Constitution Ave.

7/4, the 4th! Bob did his press conferences in Trenton and Philadelphia this morning.  BIG crowds in Philly today -- the president to speak later.  Bob driving around town with banner-signs in tow.

As of 1 PM WED:    On his way to Baltimore for a press meeting and finally tonight into Washington.  More later. . . FREE streamed video & audio coverage to begin Friday. . . stay tuned.

7/3 Tuesday. Up early (as usual) Bob did some laundry and sent some final press releases.  Around 8:30 Tuesday the journey started in Glens Falls, NY with a press conference.  Following that was a press conference at the federal building in Albany, NY.  After that Bob headed to the federal building in NYC for a press conference.  After the NYC press conference, Bob rushed to the TV studios to appear on Fox News' Hannity & Colms news show.  Appearance went well.  Spent afternoon getting to Trenton NJ for Wed. a.m. press conference.  ABC news radio and public radio in NY contacted WTP for radio interviews.  Other stations calling in from around the country this afternoon.  Bob is coordinating with Roland Crouteau, a successful businessman from OK who has joined the hunger fast.  Roland is currently in D.C. front-ending several parking and permit issues, etc.

Bob is traveling with two board members from his organization for several days.  Bob called the WTP office late Tuesday night.  He is tired (not surprisingly!) but determined.

7/2, Monday.  Furious preparations for the fast.  Bob spent much of the day wrapping up personal financial business and making final preparations.  His latest grandchild was born to his daughter in Virginia today -- a girl -- 8 lbs.7 oz.  Picked up the 20' trailer and billboard signs.  The signs state the three main legal claims (no law requires filing/paying, the 16th is a fraud and if you file you waive the 5th.)   Late night packed up thousands of newspaper ads and Tyranny Response Team windbreakers in the trailer (available at our on-line store).  Made thousands of copies of 1-page handout flyer (see our home page).

7/1, Sunday.  Bob started fast at his home & property in upstate New York.  His last meal consisted of Chinese food leftovers & a glass of wine.  There were some delays in getting the trailer & signs ready. They will be ready Monday p.m.
