THE PEOPLE HAVE PROHIBITED IT We the people, by the clear terms of our NY Constitution have prohibited cities from giving public money to private corporations. However, in 1997, and again in 1998, the City of Albany gave $60,000 to the "Steuben Place Partners" so that the owners of the Steuben Club could make the payments required to be made under the terms of one of its private loans. The Steuben Club is a swank, private club located in Albany. It has a classy dining room, swimming pool, handball courts, work-out rooms, etc. Its members include prominent bankers, government officials and leaders of business and industry. On March 6, 1998, ACTA people brought the matter to the Judiciary. * Click here * to see a copy of briefs to the U.S. District Court. |
