The last leg of the Freedom Drive starts from the Howard County Fairgrounds on Thursday morning. The fairgrounds are just north of Frederick, Maryland. The Freedom caravan departs at 7 AM for DC.
From Interstate 70, take Exit 80, Route 32 South. Turn right onto Route 144 West. Go 1/2 mile, turn right onto Fairgrounds Road. From the South: Take 32 West (later a sign change into 32 North) to West Friendship. Turn left onto Route 144 West. Go 1/2 mile, turn right onto Fairgrounds Road.
All
roads lead to Washington, DC. Look at a map and you will see Washington is
circled by 495 and 95.
As you drive on Constitution you will pass the Federal Reserve, the White House and the IRS. Go to 3rd. St (NW) and TURN RIGHT onto 3rd (past our stage). Go to Independence and TURN LEFT onto Independence. You will be close to the Capitol. Go up the hill PAST the Capitol (which will be on your left) and PAST 1st St. SE. TURN LEFT onto 2nd street. Just by the Supreme Court, TURN RIGHT onto Maryland. Go to Constitution and TURN HARD LEFT back onto Constitution. Note: This is an "oblique" angled intersection. Take Constitution all the way down past the IRS, the White House and the Federal Reserve building. Go to "C" St. NW. TURN RIGHT onto "C" St. NW. Go to 2OTH St. TURN RIGHT onto 20TH. Go to Constitution. TURN LEFT onto Constitution. If you repeat the above 3 times you will circle the Mall 3 times. Expect traffic to be heavy. If time permits, drivers are encouraged to continue driving the "Freedom Loop."
As time gets close to 10:30 or 11 AM the "looping" will cease and the drive will proceed to RFK Stadium for parking ($5/day) and for drivers to return to the National Mall event site across from the Capitol. To get to RFK stadium: The departure point on the loop will Maryland & Constitution.
TURN RIGHT onto Constitution instead of left In 3
blocks to you will come to Lincoln Park, (circle). The entrance is on 19th & East Capitol. There are multiple entry
points.
Have at least $2.20 ready to put in the fare machines. This is the
cost to purchase a round trip Metro Ticket between the stadium and the
Federal Center Metro stop by the Mall. Look for the signs that show routes to the Federal Center. Take the Metro Red or Blue Line to the Metro stop at Federal Center. From the Stadium, the Federal Center is the fourth station FOLLOWING these three stops: Potomac, Eastern Market, Capitol South. From here you walk north 3 blocks to Independence & 3rd. The other
Metro option is to go to the Smithsonian station which empties out on the Mall and walk east toward
the Capitol.
