San Francisco: Kick-Off Rally Friday,

Kick off rally starts Friday @ Noon. Events scheduled all
afternoon into the early evening. Freedom Drive heads East toward

11 PM. Stage & Depart Sat. 5 AM.
(There is no rally planned for this brief stop.) Gas your vehicles up
that evening to save time in the morning. Reno to Salt Lake loses 1 hour

Freedom Drive: ROUTE OVERVIEW
| Drivers from California going to SLC:
Drivers headed from San Francisco will depart Friday evening from the
rally in downtown San Francisco and head into Reno, Nevada for the night.
Expected arrival time in Reno is 11:30 PM. Watch the weather. Do
not head into the mountains without a full tank of gas. Bring winter
clothing and gloves -- just in case. . . .
Vehicles should stage and be ready to depart at 5 AM the following
morning in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn just off I-80 at 1000 East
Sixth Street, Reno, NV, Voice: (775) 786-5151
Take Highway 80 straight to Salt Lake City. When you get to I-80 and
I-15, take 15 south to the 13th South exit. Go west. Proceed to 13th
South and 7th East Street. You will drive straight to the first staging
area.
This first staging area is Liberty Park. It's very large so you won't
miss it and it's very easy to find on the map. Liberty Park is
surrounded by Constitution Drive. Christian and his wonderful crew out
there will have everything set up waiting for drivers to arrive, just
look for the set up in the park and you won't have any problem.
Drivers leaving SLC will get back onto I-80 and head East to Denver.
Please be aware that when you leave Salt Lake City, you will be crossing
the Wasatch Mountain Range it's formidable. Park City is right outside
Salt Lake. It is at that point where you will being the long stretch
across Wyoming.
When you get to Cheyenne, Wyoming you will take I-25 So to Denver. When
you get to the Denver metro area, you will then take I-70 East off I-25.
Drivers heading to Salt Lake City from Washington, Oregon, Idaho have
various routes available to them and can consult their maps.
Drivers leaving directly for Denver, CO out of the Southern California
area:
You will want to take 15 to Barstow, through Las Vegas. Stay on 15 in
Nevada until you hit 50 which connects with I-70. This is the entrance
to the Colorado Rockies. It's a long haul over those mountains. It's
also spectacularly beautiful.
A word of caution for all drivers taking this route: Rest areas and gas
stations are far and few in between once you leave Barstow. Much of the
area in Nevada is desert. When you get to the foot of the Rockies at
I-70, you begin the climb. It's uphill all the way to Denver with
stretches of straight-aways.
At the beginning of the drive (I-70) to cross the Rockies, there are
some very long stretches without gas stations, so please be prepared
with full tanks. Once you hit Grand Junction, the towns become more
frequent all the way into Denver.
Once on I-70 East, proceed to the exit called Chambers Road. This
staging area is the Holiday Inn.
When the drivers leave Denver, they will head East on I-70 to Kansas
City, MO. Please be advised that there are long stretches across Kansas
without gas stations or rest stops, so be prepared.
After crossing through Kansas City, MO you will go past Arrowhead Football
stadium (Truman Sports Complex) on I-70 to exit #12 which will be Holland
Road. The staging hotel there
will be the Comfort Inn.
When the drivers leave KC, MO, you will still be heading East on I-70 toward
Indianapolis, Indiana.
To save a significant amount of time, in St. Louis the route will
NOT follow I-70 into downtown St. Louis but will instead follow the
I- 270 loop around the north side of St. Louis. I-270 meets I-70 again on the Illinois side of St. Louis.
When you get to Indianapolis on I-70, you will be adjacent to the
Indianapolis International Airport. When you come to the junction of
I-70 and 465/52, take 465 North to Airport Expressway. The airport will
be on your left. Exit onto Airport Expressway there (East) and proceed
to the first major exit which will be Lynhurst Drive. The staging hotel
there will be the Holiday Inn.
When drivers leave Indianapolis, they take I-465 around toward the
South/East and will pick up I-70 on the east side of Indy and continue into
Pennsylvania.
The fifth and final staging area is the Howard County Fairgrounds north
of Frederick, MD. The fairgrounds are located at: 2210 Fairgrounds Road, West Friendship,
Maryland. Frederick area hotels are several miles south of the
Fairgrounds. Drivers should stage the following morning at the
Fairgrounds.
From Interstate 70, take Exit 80, Route 32 South. Turn right onto Route
144 West. Go 1/2 mile, turn right onto Fairgrounds Road.
From the South: Take 32 West (later a sign change into 32 North) to West
Friendship. Turn left onto Route 144 West. Go 1/2 mile, turn right onto
Fairgrounds Road.
